Happy Halloween!
Nothing new today (c'mon, it's
Halloween!), but here's the latest .plan/.PP updates:
| Monday, October 27, 1997 |
Woohoo!
Wow. We just got 13 inches of
snow here last night. What a mess. Now, while that may not seem like much to your folks
who've never lived out in Nebraska (I just love this state), it is. You see, that snow
(wet snow = heavy) gets onto power lines, phone lines, water towers, everything. And then
it tends to knock that stuff over. So as of late, I've been without power, water, phones,
and about everything else. So life around here's been somewhat hectic. Hopefully
everything will be straightened out (heh, at least we got power now) soon, and I can
update some more later.
Progress
I just got the latest
progs.dat from Fusion (be sure to check his .plan often, as well as the others), and we've
got some neat stuff happening. Custents has been implemented, and Fusion added a neat
lighting effect to the blaster bolts. The Bith and Jawa are in, and now we're working on
some other stuff. One thing we're trying to tackle at the moment is flips and rolls. These
are supposedly impossible in the Quake engine, but we're working to get around the
impossible part and do them anyway. More on this later. I've been playing Avalanche's
latest version of the Star Destroyer level, and I'm impressed. Very good stuff. Jizzlobber
also threw up a Tatooine level for testing purposes, complete with a cantina, which is a
lot of fun to run around, and duck under tables while blasting Stormtroopers. I'll post
some more screenshots soon.
The Terror is Over
Thanks to everyone who helped
out in finding the TerrorForm project. We did find both the beta and the code, thanks to
your help. I'll post the latest beta here for download, and we'll be working on making an
even better version. Let me explain a little of what this program is. You get a screen
with a flat plane, which can be manipulated to make a realistic-looking terrain effect.
The program creates a .map file from this, which can be added into your map. This makes
simply amazing canyon and underwater effects, and we'll be using this a lot in our TC.
Site Stuff
Moved some of the news into
the Old News section. Added CDROM.COM to the Downloads servers. Also updated the Members
page.

New Screenshots
There's three new screenshots
from Voltas' level up on the (surprise!) Screenshots page.
Texture Artist Sought
Electric just informed me that
the TC could use another texture artist. All applicants should apply within.
Terror in the Night
Here's a way you can help the
TC out. We're looking for either the web page (if it still remains), or the source code
for an old, and often overlooked program called TerrorForm. If anyone knows of the
whereabouts of this program, please email Red Knight.
Wow, a REAL .plan!
Fusion now has a real .plan
which he's using as a worklog. Great reading ;)

More New Members
DeadMeat has joined the TC as
another skin artists, and falkon2 has decided to lend his help to our modeling dept.
Welcome to the team!
Quake 2 Test
Well, in case you live under a
rock, the Quake 2 test demo has been released by the gods at id Software. In my personal
opinion, I think it's great, definitely a few strides ahead of Quake. However I've heard
so much whining, that I feel compelled to say at least something. C'mon people, it's a
TEST! Of course stuff is going to be messed up, that's why they release it (so you can
find the bugs they don't). Let me just put it down to a simple question: Would you rather
a) Have a demo that has bugs, b) Have no demo at all?

Skin Artist Found
We'd like to welcome xander13
to the team as one of our new skin artists! Thanks, and enjoy all the work we've got for
you! We could still use a couple more skin artists, so keep sending those examples in!

.PPs
Updated my .PP with a new
look, and lots of new info, as well as a Frequently Asked Questions section. Also, the
Features section was given a quick update, and the Downloads page now has the Mos Eisley server up. Speaking of
servers, anyone who talked to me about donating server space, please email me with
confirmation that the files are available on your server, and include the final URL at
which they reside. Thanks.

GLQuake
Ok, ok, so Prelim 1b does NOT
work with GL Quake. I thought we had that fixed too... Anyway, Prelim 2 is only a week or
so away, so we'll have the model errors fixed then. Again, sorry about that, and we will
have it fixed in Prelim 2.

Prelim 1b
As promised, Prelim 1b is
available on the Downloads page. It's only on this server tonight, it'll be on all the
others by tomorrow night. This will only happen in this instance Prelim 2 and it's
followers will be on all the servers on the night of release in the future. Now for some
notes on Prelim 1b. This is a VERY early version. This is being release only as a
hold-over while we fix some things with Prelim 2. The Grunts and Enforcers have been
changed to Stormtroopers, the ax has been replaced with a VERY early version of the
lightsaber, the super nailgun has been replaced with the Stormtrooper Rifle, and the
Grenade Launcher has been replaced with the Thermal Detonator. Note that there is NO code
or levels for Prelim 1b. Oh, and by popular demand, Prelim 1b now has GLQuake support.
Enjoy.

Don't All Jump At Once....
I haven't received any mail
regarding new skinners yet. Since Lobo's gone, we're going to need some serious help in
that area right away. Already there's a pile of models waiting to be skinned. I'm quite
serious folks, if we don't get some new people soon, we're going to be in trouble.
Jedi Knight
Yes, Jedi Knight is indeed
out, and I've played it, as well as the demo. You're probably wondering what my thoughts
are on the game, as it is basically a professional version of what we're trying to do.
Just wait a while, because I have a lot to say, and I want to be sure about it before I
say it <grin>. Tell you what. When we release Prelim 2, I'll post my thought then.
Problems
We seem to be having some
communication difficulties here among the team. That happens when half of us are half-way
around the world from each other. I'm hoping those will all be straightened out soon.
Servers
Thanks to all who send offers
to give us server space! We've send mail to everyone who will host our downloads, now
we're just waiting for confirmation and uploading. The downloads page should be up with at
least Prelim 1 and 1a really soon. While we fix some things with Prelim 2, we're going to
release Prelim 1b, as well as it's update, tomorrow. Be sure to watch the site. Speaking
of downed pages, the Screenshots and Members pages have been updated.
.PPs
Since none of us are using our
actually .plan links on the page, we're now calling the .plans ".PPs", or
Personal Pages. Pretty original huh? Here's the latest updates:

Calling All Skinners!
Sadly, Lobo has left the TC,
and we could really use a couple more model skinners. If you're interested, please send an
example of your work to Red Knight. Even if you've sent some work in the past, please send
it again, as I've been having a lot of problem related to my mail account lately.

Prelim 2 Pushed Back
Prelim 2 will have to be
released next week, as we still need to get at least four confirmed download locations so
that we don't strain servers too much. If you recall our days on GamesNet, we actually
brought the servers down with our download demand from Prelim 1.
