Progress
The team is taking a little
break until Monday, when the real action is going to start. We're doing a little revamping
and reorganizing here, and laying out some new deadlines.
Shot o' the Day
Here's a couple quick shots of
Avalanche's latest edition to the ever-increasing Star Destroyer level. These are from the
engineering section.

TerrorForm Update
A lot of people have been
asking about the TerrorForm program, so I'll give you the scoop. TerrorForm is a program
for creating a .map file containing sculpted terrain. This means you can create smooth,
flowing hills and valleys quickly and easily. We got the source code for the program, and
we're going to go over it, give the program an interface update and release it to the
public. In the meantime, here's a couple of screenshots of what the program does (these is
from a test level falkon2 did).

Wow
IKSPQ5. That is the name of an
unbelievable level. I first heard about it on Blue's, read the review, and decided to
download it and see if it was any good. I was shocked. This has got to be the best level
out there right now. I won't waste your time describing it when you can check it out for
yourself. It's available here.
Shot o' the Day
This is an old one, but it's
still cool, and I thought that those of you just joining our happy family would like to
look at it. This is the flyable speeder bike. That's right flyable, just like the
X-Wing. You'll be able to go zooming around a forest area in one of the levels, trying to
escape from those pesky Scout Troopers.

Preview
Astra did a Preview of our TC
over at Fortnight. The article was
about what I expected, considering the early version of the stuff we had to give them, and
considering that, Astra did a great job. There's also an interview Astra conducted with me
up there, and even though some parts got pasted around a little differently then they were
intended (due to my horrible ping that night), you'll get the general idea. BTW: If anyone
else would like to do a preview, etc, you're welcome to, but I'd rather that you wait
until we've got some more stuff done. Oh, and everything that Astra picked up on that
needs correcting has already or will be corrected.
Official Web Site Update
If you haven't already, I
highly recommend checking out www.starwars.com.
They've posted a lot of new pictures and sketches from the new movie, and it's definitely
a treat to look at.

Progress Update
Just got the latest code
update. In-game now are the light-sourced blaster bolts, and the (GLQuake friendly!)
Stormtrooper rifle has been completely integrated with the new arm/disarm and reload
animations. Also, I should note that all blaster weapons will have both stun and kill
settings (stun uses less power). The new missile code is also in-game now. It works like
this: The missile is launched, becomes active after a short delay, then seeks the closest
thing that's moving, including you. This thing is really neat to see in action.
Other SW TCs?
I've heard that there's a
couple other Star Wars TC floating out around the net, including one at cdrom.com. I
haven't tried any of them, so I couldn't tell you if they're any good. Just to clarify.
Unless there's an announcement here, and it's posted on the Downloads page, it's not ours.
Site Stuff
Put up a link to the FAQ and
added the Micro Film page for your convenience. Also added the Headlines bar at the top
for easy navigation to the good stuff on the news page. This section will also mention
anything that might not bear directly on this TC, but is important in it's own right.
Today I posted a link to the new version of GLQuake.

The Micro Film,
Part 2
It's Thursday, and time for my
weekly communication with Privateer. Here's the latest info:
"After
days of surveillance, and approval from High Command, I can now release Privateer's prize
photo. Solid evidence of wrong doing in the Clinto--er.. Palpatine administration. This
unclassified picture shows one of the containers that have been shipped out of Palpatine's
secret storage bunkers. The container had an accident ([not] involving one of our own
agents of course, as that would be in violation of several international security
treaties) and exposed what has been identified as four EE-614 hypersleep pods, used long
ago when traveling at lightspeed was still experimental. What Palpatine would need with
such primitive technology is beyond reason, as lightspeed travel is as simple as a nav
computer and hyperdrive motivater for almost any good sized thrusters. Next week,
Privateer will risk life and limb to infiltrate Palpatine's intelligence facility to
uncover the reason for all this secrecy. Stay tuned..." |
Research Central to Open Soon
I'm currently working on
compiling all the known info on any and everything Star Wars related into one sight to be
used by the team for this project. Once it's done, I'll open it's doors to the public, so
you too can share in this collection of Star Wars knowledge.
News Updates
I'll try to update this site
more often, but I'm really busy, balancing work, school, and TC. I also apologize for any
incoherent sentences or misplaced words that the spell checker doesn't pick up. I usually
update pretty late at night, which is the only time I can update. I
appreciate your patience and tolerance, and I promise to make this a kick-ass TC to make
up for all your trouble.

New D3D Wrapper
Version 1.2 of David
Springer's D3D Wrapper for non-3dfx cards if available here. See below for more
information. When you run this .exe, it will default to unzip to C:\Quake if this is not
your Quake directory, then you should change it before clicking "Unzip". The
program will then ask if you want to overwrite opengl.dll. Go ahead and say yes. Then
start up GLQuake, and it should run fine.
Site Info
Updated the Member's Page with
Mr. Pink's email, and added Jinx Katarn, our sketch artist, and Thump, and latest skinner.

The Micro Film
Just checked the memory banks
of our probe droids, and here's a message I found:
"Fresh from enemy testing
facilities, our brave spy, Privateer, has retrieved more evidence that Palpatine is more
than just a politician. The attached photo shows an infrared scan from one of Palpatine's
"food storage" bunkers. The boxes however, were plated durasteel, hardly a
material to waste on food storage. But fear not! Privateer will return again, determined
to find out what Palpatine is hiding. Stay tuned for the next installment of... THE MICRO
FILM!! [echo] Da, da, daaa" |
While a little frightening, this message does shed some light on the current (to our story line) events surrounding the mysterious Palpatine.
Prelim 2 Update
Many of you have been
wondering about the Prelim 2 delay. We're doing this because we want to add some more
things into the next Prelim to make it a more fun playing experience than Prelim 1.
Members, Old and New
Sadly, Fusion has left our TC.
Hot on the heels of his departure, however, a new influx of "fresh meat" has
joined our happy family. Please welcome Derelict as our new texture artist, Havoc as the
latest addition to the skins dept., and the three new programmers: Legion, ShockMan, and
Mr. Pink. Welcome aboard guys! You've got your work cut out for you. Hope you enjoy it.
.plans/.PPs
To those of you wonder just
what the heck a .PP is, it's Personal Page (a phrase for those make believe .plan files).
Here's the latest updates:

Story Updated
Updated the story section with
the first draft of the intro (so Dashman and Weewo would shut up). I'll try and keep it
updated with the latest info, but please don't send me mail about it, it is the first
draft. The story will probably have a lot of parallels to the epic trilogy, but we'll be
sure to throw in enough new stuff to keep it riveting. The TC is really started to pick
up, and I couldn't be happier.

The 3Dfx Monopoly is Broken!
Woohoo! Attention anyone who
does not own a 3Dfx card: Now you can play GLQuake. Get David Springer's Direct 3D Wrapper, unzip it to
your Quake directory, and load up GLQuake. I tried this out, and GLQuake will even run on
an S3 Virge! I'll keep you updated with the latest version.
Site Stuff
Members: The web board is now
back up and functioning.
To everyone else: I know there's been a lack of new as of late, I'll make up for that by
posting a lot of screenshot of our in-progress stuff this week.
