Inside Look
Here's a portion of an email I received from MerIDiaN on the new player model: [Red Knight]

From: Matt < Mèr¦ÐiáN > Riegel <mriegel@cybertours.com>
To: Red Knight <redknight@iname.com>
Date: Sunday, March 29, 1998 2:04 PM
Subject: Re: The Player Model

...here's a little description of the model that I have in mind:

He could easily double as a soldier/jedi/colony worker... (depends on the skin)... now this is optional but the sketch I'm seeing... he's sporting a nice helmet... tight fitting around the head (not bulky) with two small straps that hang below his chin on adjacent sides of his skull. His face is pretty general... umm... he has 3 average size bullet cases loosely hung on his right shoulder... he has a utility belt with different gadgets hung on that, close to his mid-section... he has loose-fitting pants.. and small utility pockets on them... down to the bottom we have standard military issue boots... now this looks REALLY good... and a good series of skins could make this guy appear to be a variety of characters... so when I say I'm using my best judgment... I think this is what we want for a player model. He could look like a jedi... a strike-team soldier... anything.

Status Report
As you can tell, MerIDiaN has started on the player model, Mr. Pink continues to code in the Bith, Legion is working on advanced movement code for the Stormtroopers, and I'm starting to put in all the details and cross-index the new design docs for easy consumption by the team. [Red Knight]

Starcraft Goes Gold!
I know this isn't SWQ related, but I just had to post it. Starcraft, Blizzard Entertainment's long-awaited real-time strategy game, has finally gone gold. Blizzard has stated that the game should be on store shelves within 7-10 days. [Red Knight]

Status Report
Ok, so the updated turned out to not be as large as I'd hoped :( However, here's our current status:
Models:
- MerIDiaN is waiting for the final sketch to start the player model, in the meantime he's continuing work on the    AT-AT
- falkon2 is finishing up another project he's working on, then it's back to the Bith and new blaster pistol.

Coding:
- Drywall has nearly finished implementing PHIL into Quake2, and has made some progress on COMLINK.
- Kooch is hard at work (some tell me maddeningly so) on the Speeder Bike code.
- Legion has started work on the new missile code while he waits for the final animated Stormtrooper.
- Mr. Pink is implementing the Jawa model and sounds, and starting on it's AI.

Skins:
- Currently on hold until Havoc gets some time off from Real Life, and the modellers deliver something new.

Levels:
- WolfeN is finishing up another project he's working on, though he says he may be able to squeeze an SWQ level into his busy schedule. I'm also talking to another possible level candidate, though we could still use more.

BBoard Update
Just finished replying to all the new messages on the BBoard. Some of the most notable comments came from the Force issue, which we haven't really started working on yet. Our current focus is to get the weapons, vehicles, and levels completely in-game before we start working on Force powers. However, the information and ideas the BBoard is producing will certainly influence our work. Keep those posts coming. [Red Knight]

Status Report
Spawn22 is now in the process of skinning the Ion Rocket and it's Launcher, the Binary Load Lifter, and the player's PAD. falkon2 is working hard on the new Blaster Pistol, and the coding team is throwing themselves without mercy at the monumental task of porting all the code. Watch for a detailed status update on Friday. Also, as usual, the BBoard is overflowing with new messages, which I'll answer tonight. [Red Knight]

Site Stuff
Kicked some of the news into the Old News section. I really need to organized that more someday. [Red Knight]

BBoard Redux
I finally updated everything. If you're not posting on the BBoard, I strongly suggest you at least check it out. We've been getting some very intelligent comments from people, and I've been giving out some info on the TC, and answering everything (except multiplayer questions). [Red Knight]

BBoard Update
Wow! Over 20 posts last night! I've got to run right now, but I'll have everything answered this evening. [Red Knight]

AT-AT!
I just got done talking with MerIDiaN, who tells me he's still working on SWQ despite increasing demands by Real Life. He also sent  this "very alpha" screenshot of the AT-AT. [Red Knight]
ATAT01sm.jpg (5120 bytes)

Status Report
Drywall has given out the latest assignments to the coders. Work has begun in earnest on the TC again. Currently in-progress are the Speeder Bike, COMLINK, the AI for the Bith and the Jawa, implementation of the new weapons, and the experience system. Watch for new info on all of these soon. [Red Knight]

.plans/.PPs
Removed the out-of-date ones and updated my own. [Red Knight]

More BBoard Updates
I finally posted some of the lightsaber info on the bulletin board. There have also been quite a few other good question posted, all of which I've now answered. Just for future reference, I'll always try and answer everything on the BBoard, no matter how many posts there are, so just keep the questions/suggestion rolling in. [Red Knight]

BBoard Update
More info from the bulletin board. Today our essay writer RipVTide made a few suggestions about the lightsaber. I'm going to make my (rather lengthy) post tonight, but for now, I'd like to hear what the rest of you have to say on this subject. [Red Knight]

Battlecruiser Update
Version 1.03e of Battlecruiser 3000AD was released today on it's site. This version adds support for 3Dfx Voodoo and Voodoo Rush cards, which make the game look quite good. If you downloaded the free version of Battlecruiser earlier, and have one of those cards, I highly recommend getting this patch. [Red Knight]

qME Preview 2
The second preview version of qME is finally available on it's page. If you ask me, it took way too long for this version to be released. I know it's a preview version, but in preview 1, you couldn't even save q2 skins correctly. [Red Knight]

QuArK 5.0a2
Version 5.0a2 of the ever-useful Quake Army Knife has been released here. [Red Knight]

Status Report
We're still coming along. I'm going to try to figure out where everyone's at this weekend, and I should also be done with the new design docs Monday. I'm not going to post them here, however. They'd just give too much of the awesome stuff away. [Red Knight]

TC Toolbox Coming Soon
I've been asked by a lot of people to post a page that states what tools we use in SWQ, and just how one goes about making a TC. After receiving two of these emails in one day, I've decided to give in and finally do it. Should be up by next week. [Red Knight]

BBoard
Wow! The bulletin board is starting to get some attention. I'll be making several posts and answering people's questions from time to time, so be sure to check it out. Today a few questions came up consider the COMLINK and Planetary Plug-Ins ideas I posted earlier. As for the latest status update: Everyone who's not tied up in Real Life is working, I'm finishing up the design docs, and the rest are trying to find time for SWQ. I'll keep you posted. Half-Life IRC Log
eXponential Half-Life has posted an edited log of the IRC interview with the Valve crew. This is a good read, and reveals a lot of info, most importantly that Half-Life's release date has NOT slipped to June as has been rumored. [Red Knight]

Ideas
I posted a couple of ideas I've been playing with on the bulletin board. Let me know what you think. [Red Knight]

Status Report
You might have noticed that things are slowing down a little bit around here. This is mostly due to the fact that the majority of the team is tied up in Real Life issues and the design docs are undergoing a complete rewrite (don't worry no major changes that you know about :). However, I do expect things to get back to normal soon, and once they are, I'll let you know. [Red Knight]

Half-Life IRC Today
As you can see from the banner, the Half-Life IRC interview will be tonight. I'll be sure to be there, and if anyone's interested, I'll answer question about SWQ on another channel afterwards. [Red Knight]

Old Stuff Updates
I was going through all of my old mail (all 200 megs of it!) before I deleted it (needed space bad) and I thought I'd give some updates on "old stuff" that's I'd mentioned up here earlier. First, some of you might remember TerrorForm. TerrorForm is a program for creating a .map file containing sculpted terrain. This means you can create smooth, flowing hills and valleys quickly and easily. I'm currently working on giving the whole thing an interface overhaul, and porting it over to Q2 .map format. Once I've got some solid work done on it, I'll release a beta here. Another thing you might be wondering about is Research Central. This is another project that I'm working on, to compile everything and anything about the Star Wars Universe into one, easy to access web site. I've got a lot of work done on this, but due to the extreme amount of info to go through about Star Wars, it's still going to be awhile until it's done. [Red Knight]

Quake 3?
I just read John Carmack's latest .plan update, which gives some important info on some of the future plans at id and Quake 3? You'd better read this one for yourself. [Red Knight]

New Members
Let's all give a bit welcome to Kooch, our new programmer, and Spawn22, who'll be doing some skins for us. Welcome aboard guys! [Red Knight]

Wow...
If you're like me, and enjoy any "good" game, then you might want to check out the Falcon 4.0 preview over at OGR. The gaming season just keeps getting better and better. [Red Knight]

Half-Life IRC
I saw on eXponential Half-Life that there's going to be an IRC interview with the Valve crew this Saturday on Undernet #half-life. I don't know about you, but I'm definitely looking forward to this game, and I'll be there to hear what they have to say. [Red Knight]

What, No Updates?
Yes, I know I haven't been updating much lately, but that's mostly because until recently I've been digging out from all the snow the weather so graciously bestowed upon me. There's some exciting new stuff in the works for SWQ, and I hope to have new info up here within the next week. Until then, check out all the new Battlecruiser 3000AD screenshots here. [Red Knight]

Bulletin Board Up
Ok, so I didn't get back in time to update. To make up for it, here's the new bulletin board. [Red Knight]

SWQ Preview
There's a good preview of Star Wars Quake over at ReWired. Go check it out, and come back here later tonight for more updates. [Red Knight]

WolfeN Here
Well hello there people. Just gotta say that I finally got some stuff working on my end so expect to see some screenshots of the levels I am working on. I am pretty much just taking over what Avalanche didn't finish off. So once I get some good stuff ready to show expect to see it here. Until next time. Cya! [WolfeN]

Worldcraft 1.6
According to QuakeCast, version 1.6 or Worldcraft will in fact be released tomorrow. This is good news for all the level designers who've been waiting so long. [Red Knight]

New Screenshots
I snagged a couple of quick screenshots of the new cargo ship level in QERadiant, and uploaded them to the Screenshots page. As soon as I get Q2 running again, I'll post some more from in the game.  [Red Knight]

Source Code Released!!
Woohoo! Id released the 3.14 source code. Now we can finally get the TC rolling smooth again. For everyone else interested, the source code is available here. Enjoy! I know I will. [Red Knight]

Rebellion Goes Gold
PC Gamer has reported that Rebellion (the new strategy game from LucasArts) has gone gold, which means that it's off to mass production and will be released soon. Here's what they had to say:

Star Wars: Rebellion has gone gold and is in the process of being released to manufacturers, a spokesperson for LucasArts said today. The team signed off on the game last week.

The game is the first official strategy game set in the Star Wars universe. You can read an early preview of the game in our previews area .

Rebellion should be available in stores towards the end of March. According to Electronics Boutique, the official date is March 18th.

No Source Yet
Looks like id didn't have time to upload the source code last night, but they've said it will be up tonight. [Red Knight]

Site Stuff
Put some of the news back on the Old News page. Also expect a slight re-organization of things in a couple of days. Nothing major, I'm just moving some things around to make them easier to read and access.  [Red Knight]

Point Release Source?
It's been said that the new point release source code will be released sometime tonight. Let's hope that this is true so we can get back on track. [Red Knight]

Release Date Info
We've finally settled on a real release date: "Before Trinity!" How's that? Really though, I think we're going to try and shoot for a Christmas release date. Note how carefully I have omitted the year. While I sincerely hope we will make it by Christmas this year, it is quite possible that we may not. However, keep your hopes high that when you see St. Nick flying past your window, you'll be playing SWQ at the same time. [Red Knight]
