|| 05.07.00 || Silence Broken
Ah, sweet deafening silence. So much has been going on, but so little has been told, though I must say watching the reaction of the forum regulars has been entertaining <g>.

The DM test is still humming and thrumming along its merry way, with the new player model animations finally being finished and dropped into the game, which leaves the critical task list for the modeling department empty. All placeholder art for the in-game HUD has been eliminated, and a new sound set for each of the weapons and Force powers has been implemented and is currently being tweaked.

Brad stopped by for one of his all-too-brief visits during break to supply new versions of the player model skins with a little lighting correction applied to satisfy Quake 2's alteration of the original image. This will leave you with nine initial skins to choose from upon the DM release, with two of those being red/blue-indicated suits for CTF (or in this case, CTJ).

Speaking of Capture the Jawa, Privateer has finished the jawa vwep model, which looks hilarious hanging off the player's back the whole time the critter is "captured". One other little twist we've added to CTJ is that instead of simply sitting dazed on the ground, a dropped Jawa will try to run back to where it was taken from, meaning that holding onto an opposing team's "flag" will be a bit more difficult.

So what's left before the DM test goes public? Well, we've still got a few minor bugs and coding issues to take care of, and a little bit of work to do with item placement and lighting modifications in the maps we plan to release initially, but once those are complete, the DM test will be in a "release-ready" state. When this occurs, a complete release candidate will be sent to the testers, and while we await their feedback, we'll be working on a few of the many items on our non-critical task list. This will continue until both the team and testers are satisfied that we have a fairly stable release candidate, at which point the public release will finally be made. As the great majority of such fixes are mostly minor, and quite frankly, somewhat boring to report, the news page may be a little quiet, but I will try to let you know how things are going more often than monthly <g>. Till next time! [ rk ]
